Getaround - Increase the new user repeat rate
A strategic product initiative to increase repeat booking rates through physical vehicle quality optimization on Europe's leading car-sharing platform.
The Challenge
Getaround identified vehicle physical quality as a key factor affecting new user retention. Our team was tasked with analyzing this correlation and developing solutions to increase repeat rates by 1.5% through quality optimization.
Project Scope & Timeline
As part of the Noé Product Management bootcamp, I led a 4-week strategic initiative in November 2024, collaborating with a team of four product managers. We focused on developing data-driven solutions to enhance user trust and vehicle quality standards.
Research & Analysis
- Conducted comprehensive user interviews with vehicle owners and renters to identify quality-related pain points
- Analyzed platform data using SQL to quantify impact of vehicle cleanliness, security, and listing accuracy
- Performed competitive analysis of industry leaders
- Utilized AI tools like NotebookLM and Claude 3.5 Sonnet for efficient user research analysis
Solution Design
- Designed "Supercar" badge system inspired by Airbnb's successful Superhost program
- Developed enhanced rating system with specific metrics for cleanliness, security, and reliability
- Created improved technical information display and verification system
- Built and iterated on functional prototypes using Figma based on user feedback
Tools & Technologies
- Design: Figma for UI/UX prototyping and iteration
- Analysis: SQL for data pattern identification
- Collaboration: JIRA, Slack, Notion, and Google Drive
- AI Integration: NotebookLM and Claude for research analysis
Projected Impact
- Data analysis indicated potential for 3% increase in global repeat rate
- Solution designed to address key trust issues around vehicle quality
- Established clear success metrics: repeat rates, cleanliness ratings, and satisfaction scores
- Received positive user feedback on prototype, particularly for familiar trust indicators
Key Learnings
This project demonstrated the power of data-driven product development and genuine user empathy. By combining thorough user research with deep listening to customer needs, we created a solution that not only improved retention metrics but also strengthened trust in our platform. The key insight? Numbers tell a story, but understanding the humans behind those numbers transforms good products into meaningful experiences.
